Course Objectives
To help the students:
- To understand the significance of worship and to preach in the life of the church.
- To explore the theological basis of Christian worship and preaching.
- To gain an understanding of the common origins, common features of worship in the churches.
- To interpret the Bible meaningfully and contextually.

- Visiting local congregations and analyzing worship and preaching
- Leading worship in local congregation wherever possible

I. Christian Worship: Biblical and Theological Perspectives
- Biblical narratives on the worship experiences of the people of God.
- Theological foundations of Christian worship
- The role and significance of sacraments, rituals and symbolic acts in the Christian life.
- Worship, witness and mission
II. Worship in the History of Christianity
- Worship in the Apostolic Church
- Development of the Liturgy of the Word and its origin in Synagogue worship
- Worship and Sacraments in different Christian traditions:
- Roman Catholic
- Orthodox/Eastern
- Protestant
- Pentecostal/Charismatic and Independent
- Indigenous and contextual expressions
- Ecumenical (Lima liturgy)
III. Elements of Worship and Forms of Christian Prayers
- Elements of Worship: Adoration, Praise, Thanksgiving, Confession, Intercession, etc.
- Forms: Invocations, Litanies, Petitions, Collects, Psalms, Doxologies, Benedictions, etc.
- Glossary of important liturgical terms
IV. The Christian Year
Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, Trinity, etc. The Christian calendar and the observation of fasts and feasts.

- Theology and significance of preaching
