Resources for Constructing Theologies: Theology of John Calvin
BD III, Semester 1, 2 Credit Hours, College Paper
Course Objectives:
- To acquaint the students with the main tenets of Calvin’s theological and social thoughts.
- To help the student to understand Calvin’s theology in relation to his context and to make use of Calvin theology as resources to construct theology relevant for the contemporary socio-politico-economic and ecclesiological context.
- To help the students to identify issues and concerns addressed by Calvin.
- To recognize Calvin’s contributions towards the development of Christian theology as pastor and theologian.
Method:
The instructor will give lectures on all the topics in the class. At the end of each lecture, there should be a time for discussion for ten to fifteen minutes to enable the students to reflect upon their contextual significance. Some classes should be used as seminar in which students forming a group will present the paper on the topics assigned by the Instructor. The Instructor is expected to give reading assignment s to the students each week from the books listed in the Bibliography.
