Religio-Political & Secular Movements: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was established in 1966 at Allahabad. It was founded as a result of years of thinking and deliberation. Finally, at Allahabad, a group of key people met together for the founded VHP. Swami Chinmayananda was one the most influential persons among them.
VHP has at least 16 departments and programmes. Few of them are Religious propagation, Service, Cow protection, Publicity, Establishing foreign units, Youth wing, Publication. VHP tries to bring out unity among Hindus. VHP runs schools, temples, hospitals, hostels, and health centers. It is also involved in propagating news for Hinduism.
VHP demands review of Indian constitution. They allege that the Indian constitution is anti-Hindu. So it is anti-national. We need to review the constitution.
They are actively involve in propaganda against Islam and Christianity. VHP makes claims of the Hindu sacred places, which have been converted into mosques or churches. VHP claims that 95% of the people who died during the Independent struggles and Indo-Pak war are Hindus.
They spoke against spending money for the visit of the pope. But VHP is not against Christian worship. They are against the preaching of the gospel and converting people into Christianity.
VHP has established many centers abroad in the USA. The activities of V.H.P. were banned in 1992 after it took part in the demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya. Later on this ban was lifted.
